Ever felt like treading the boards ?
Feel you’ve got a bit of talent and want to have a go ?
The Threshold Theatre Company was set up by NNOS to provide a training ground for less experienced actors and singers, preparing them for steping up into the main company when they felt confident enough to do so. One of Threshold’s objectives is “to train young or inexperienced people to gain a good knowledge of all aspects of operatic and dramatic arts“.
The company put on its first production ‘West Side Story‘ in 1995, it gained a National Lottery award in 1997 from the Arts Council which was used to provide workshops and training for Threshold members. From its start in 1995 until 2001, Threshold performed at the Walter Roy Theatre at the Hewett School, Norwich, moving to the prestigious Norwich Playhouse with its production of ‘Sweet Charity‘ in May 2003. In 2004 Threshold’s production of ‘Spend Spend Spend‘ was an East Anglian amateur premiere and it was an honour to have the attendance of Viv Nicholson, around whose amazing life this musical is based, at the opening night.
In 2007 Threshold was awarded the NODA shield for best overall production in the district for ‘The Hired Man‘, a moving and powerful musical based on the book by Melvyn Bragg, with music by Howard Goodall. It has since gone on to perform to critical acclaim ‘Jekyll & Hyde‘, ‘The Full Monty‘, ‘Footloose‘, ‘Hot Mikado‘ for which Threshold again won the NODA best overall production shield for 2011,’Little Shop of Horrors‘, ‘City of Angels’, ‘Hairspray’ and last year saw the riotously naughty but funny ‘Avenue Q’.
For 2016 Threshold will be performing the regional premiere of Dolly Parton’s fabulous new musical, 9 to 5. Auditions will take place immediately after Sunset Boulevard, production will be at the Playhouse Tuesday, 31st May to Saturday, 4th June
